I found this recipe a long time ago and we have since stopped buying store-bought syrup. My whole family loves this syrup, especially when it’s freshly made and still warm. I don’t know how long it will last as we tend to go through it quickly when it’s made. We love this on our french toast and in our oatmeal.
4 cups water
4 cups organic sugar (or 2 cups brown and 2 cups white)
2 tsp. maple flavoring
2 tsp. vanilla extract
Boil water in a saucepan. Add sugar(s), stirring until dissolved. Cook until temp reaches 230 on a candy thermometer (or you could cook longer – until the syrup reading – but we prefer a thinner syrup). Remove from heat and add in the maple and vanilla. Serve warm (the best) and store leftovers in the refrigerator!
