I have a funny story for you today. But first…
What is the first thing that comes to mind when you hear “What not to take to the thrift store”? Maybe the obvious? Dirty laundry.
On to our story. We were out and about on Friday, trying to do several errands and our grocery shopping. Making a small drop off at the local Discovery Shop was on the list. I only had a black garbage bag, a small box and a wooden rack to drop off. Simple enough, right? At the last minute, my husband decided to stop by the dry cleaners so he grabbed his clothing and tossed it into a white bag and put it in the back of the car.
We ran some errands, made the thrift store drop and ran some more errands until I finally remembered the dry cleaners. We had to back track a little to get there. Once there, hubby got out and went to grab his bag of clothing. It wasn’t there. He came to the car window and asked if we’d brought it. I knew we had since I had moved it over to the side when we were loading some things into the car.
Then it clicked… the thrift store. He had grabbed his white bag of dirty clothes and given it to the thrift store. These are his nice, Men’s Wearhouse, dress clothes and his favorite ones at that! We made a mad dash back to the thrift store. On the way, we were joking about what he was going to have to say to the gals who take in the clothing and sort. “Hi, I was just here and I dropped off my dirty laundry. Mind if I get it back?” “Nothing like taking {everything} to the thrift store.” We were cracking up at the thought. It doesn’t take much to entertain us at times. 🙂

We made it to the thrift store (it had been about an hour since dropping it off), found out the volunteers that were there earlier had gone and they had already sorted his clothing (yeah, they were quick!) Oops. It took a few extra minutes, but he did manage to find his clothing and we headed back to the dry cleaners. 🙂
We laughed so hard we shed tears over it all, but we were so very glad to get his clothing back. What about you? Have you ever taken the wrong thing to the thrift store? 🙂
PS And yes, my hubby said I could share. 🙂
