Save the Splurge – 52 Week Money Savings Challenge
Guess what y’all?!?! It’s week 14 which means we’ve hit our first big milestone in the 52 Week Money Savings Challenge and have saved over $100 so far! I’m having so much fun what that total savings number creep up. How about you?
Save the Splurge
Today we’re going to talk about saving the splurge. I believe there is nothing wrong with splurging every-so-often. I don’t buy an expensive coffee every day or even every week. We don’t go out to eat as a family or individually very often and I don’t buy a lot of of snacky foods for our family of 7. But once-in-awhile, we’ll do one of those things and thoroughly enjoy it. It’s a treat/reward for us now.
If you’re “splurging” consistently and there’s a way for you to cut down on that splurge, do it. You really don’t need that daily coffee, or maybe even weekly trip to the local Starbucks or other coffeehouse. Cut your habit by half or even 3/4, add the that total that you would have spend and transfer it over to your savings. I’m not saying to cut your coffee habit (example) cold turkey and never visit another coffeehouse again. I say wean yourself off of your habit by halving the time you go or maybe even cutting it down more. Allow that habit to become a treat for you instead of a habit. Maybe it’s not coffee but going out to eat or shopping. Whatever it is, figure out how often you go, how much you spend (add up the last month and average it out) each time you go and tell yourself you’re not going to do it so often. Transfer that money over to your savings and stick to your plan.
And come share with me and others on this journey, what your plan is. I’d love to know how I can encourage you on this journey.

- Want to open an online bank account to help keep things separated? I personally use Capital One 360 and have for years. It takes a few days for transfers to complete if you’re using a local bank
Before we wrap up this week, I want to hear from you! 1) What are you most excited about in participating in this challenge? 2) What are your concerns or frustrations about setting money aside?
