So last week was one of those weeks…you know, where you have to teach children’s Sunday School, get ready for company after church, pick up a new cute and cuddly kitten (or two *cough*), make a website and create social media accounts for the new family business you and your husband are working on (more on that later), go to jury duty, make apple juice and applesauce out of the fifty plus pounds of apples your husband and kids picked off the backyard apple tree; all while trying to keep up on laundry, dishes and meals, knowing that you have to start homeschooling your five children again within the next few weeks. You know how life can get a little overwhelming with everything going on?
After 6+ hours in the kitchen on Friday processing the apples I mentioned above, I was tired and ready to be off my feet. Friday evenings are typically our family night and we love to have pizza but I had really had enough of spending time in my kitchen so we headed off to Safeway to pick up some pizza for one of our fantastic, fun filled Friday family pizza and treat nights!! 🙂 Safeway runs some great promotions during the back to school time so in the past, I have tried to make a point to going there and stocking up a little during their promotions. It’s also great when you can save even more with additional savings from Safeway’s site and don’t forget to enter the #NestleSchoolDays Sweepstakes
Planning a Family Fun Night
I didn’t have a great plan in place before we headed to the store. I knew we wanted to picked up a few of the DIGIORNO® RISING CRUST® Pizzas or their pizzeria!™ style pizzas. I also wanted to do a fun candy bar ice cream buffet so we picked up some NESTLÉ® BUTTERFINGER®, NESTLE® CRUNCH®, NESTLÉ® BABY RUTH® and a bottle of NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Syrup. Needless to say, my kids were so happy at the whole candy bar ice cream buffet and I love the fact that they get so excited over something so simple.
A few things I’m learning about the busy seasons and spending family time together.
- Don’t feel guilty – It doesn’t have to be every week, but making it a priority a couple times a month or when you can.
- Easy dinner – It doesn’t have to be gourmet. Take out, take and bake, etc. Make it easy on yourself.
- Keep the evening simple – Kids are good with simple. It’s no fun and definitely not special if mommy is stressed out over trying to plan a fun night. Play a short game, watch a movie or put a puzzle together, etc.
What are some fun things you do to break up the Back-to-School season and spend time with family?
Want to make your own candy bar ice cream buffet? Here’s what you need:
- NESTLÉ® BUTTERFINGER® fun-sized candy bars
- NESTLE® CRUNCH® fun-sized candy bars
- NESTLÉ® BABY RUTH® fun-sized candy bars
- NESTLÉ® NESQUIK® Syrup
- Ice Cream
- Banana, peaches, nectarines, strawberries or other fruit
- Whipped topping
Chop up most of the candy bars but leave enough halved ones to top off your sundaes. Chop up all your fruit. Dish up the ice cream and serve.
