I’m sure you’ve heard the saying “Out with the old and in with the new” but when it comes to furniture, books and some other things, I much prefer “out with the new and in with the old!” I love old books, especially with writing in them. I grew up with a few vintage pieces of furniture in the house and I remember how unique and pretty they were. Most furniture now days doesn’t seem to have much character or uniqueness.
One day last month, my husband came home from work and told me about this cabinet that someone was giving away. He said it looked old but kinda cool. The person who owned it was using it for sewing stuff and he wondered if maybe I could use it. I have to say, the picture he showed me made me think the cabinet was way bigger but I instantly fell in love with the design.
We went to pick it up and I discovered how small it was but I didn’t really care. It wouldn’t work for all my sewing stuff but I was sure I could figure out something to do with it. ๐ We brought it home and I finally found the perfect place to put it. Now I just have to figure out what to use it for that might be somewhat kid friendly. Suggestions? ๐
When we brought the cabinet home, I had to look it up and discovered the name plate inside the door so that gave me a place to start. The best I can figure out right now is that the cabinet is a vintage dental cabinet from American Cabinet Co., dated around 1931. ๐ It’s not in perfect condition as it has seen it’s share of breaks and cracks but I think it’s still just a lovely… and heavy!
So how about you? Do you love vintage items? Do you have a favorite vintage item in your home? I always wonder at the history of these kind of items. How many families they went through, were they purchased in my area years ago or were they moved around a lot, etc.
